[EVHC] TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES PART 1

Hello,
EVHC has more training opportunities and updates. But first, I want to explain why we are pushing an Infrastructure TEEX series from Virginia Beach. Over the past year we have seen complications and challenges arise throughout Virginia, from the Richmond water crisis to the communication system failure during Hurricane Helene, we want you to be prepared and aware of how to address these challenges when it arises here. That is why we are pushing for you to take MGT 482, MGT 317, MGT 343. These classes are also a prequel to potential projects. Please take the opportunity to learn more through these classes.
UPDATES:
- PER 211: Medical Management of Chem, Bio, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive Events class is ALMOST full. So please register now if you would like to participate!
- MGT 439: Pediatric Disaster Response & Emergency Preparedness is ALMOST full. Please register now to participate!
- Regional Burn Training is BACK and EVHC and TEMS are offering 6 classes total. If you are an Emergency Management or a registered nurse, please register for the 2 nursing courses, we are offering 2 Nursing Contact Hours. If you are in EMS, please register for the 3 TEMS classes in the fall.
- There is a Hospital Family Support Center Workshop that is being offered to all emergency managers. This is being taught by the Virginia Crisis Awareness Response Team (VCART). There will be two classes, one in July and one in September. More information below!
- We are offering our very first lunch and learn called "Learn with Me & EVHC" The will be a quarterly training and this very first one will be focusing on Hospital Family Support Centers featuring Donald Denson from the Texas Children's Hospital. More information down below.

Hospital Family Support Center Workshop
This workshop is scheduled for July 9th from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. At Riverside Doctor's Hospital Williamsburg. 1500 Commonwealth Ave, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
This workshop will be discussing the Family Reunification, Family Assistance Centers and the hospital's part with the Hospital Family Support Center. It will be taught by the Virginia Crisis Awareness Response Team (VCART). They will be delving into family assistance centers and will talk to hospitals about the family support centers and what the differences are.

- MGT 482: An Introduction to Disaster Recovery Public Assistance ProgramsThis class is scheduled on July 9th & 10th, 2025 from 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. at Virginia Beach EMS, 4160 Virginia Beach Blvd. Virginia Beach, VA 23452.The Disaster Recovery Public Assistance Programs, an Introduction course was designed to provide an overview of the FEMA Disaster Recovery Public Assistance Program and process and will prepare front-line jurisdiction staff and leaders for working within that process. The outcome being to begin preparing for recovery in advance of a disaster.In this course, participants will identify pre-disaster planning and recovery actions. They will identify the goals of Federal Disaster Assistance and Recovery Programs, the initial stages, application collaboration, project formulation, and management of the Public Assistance Process. - Virtual Burn TrainingThis will be held for all RN's in July, & August. TEMS will be hosting this class for all EMS on September, October, and November. You can receive two contact hours and/or CEU's.DISCLAIMER:If you are in EMS, you can ONLY take the TEMS EMS class if you want CE credits. That class does cap at 30 participants.Both EVHC Team Members and TEMS EMS classes are the EXACT same. You will not be receiving additional information in one or the other.Once you have registered, you will receive a TEAMS invite to your desired training day through your email.EVHC Members (EMs, RN) Dates & Times *- July 24: 7:30 a.m. -9:30 a.m.-August 21: 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.*If you are EMS, you can still register for these classes, there is no cap for these classes. But you will NOT be receiving a CE credit.TEMS EMS Dates & Times*- September 16: 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.- October 16: 7:30 a.m. -9:30 a.m.- November 13: 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.*This is specifically for EMS because they will have a cap of 30 per class. This is the only way to receive CE credits.Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Trauma/Burn Services and Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Old Dominion University Eastern Virginia Medical School and Medical Group-Emergency Trauma and Burn Surgeons are collaborating with the Eastern Virginia Healthcare Coalition to offer virtual Burn Training to the region. This training will cover initial burn care, dressings, topical, fluid resuscitation, primary survey and transfer. It will be from 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.What if a catastrophic event occurs? Will you be ready? Will you need a special level of protection? Is decontamination necessary? Do you have the right medications? This course answers these questions and more as you learn how to distinguish between different agents of concern that could be used in an incident. A combination of facilitated discussions, small-group exercises, human patient simulator hands-on scenarios, and traditional classroom discussions are used to present the topics. Learn with Me & EVHC
This learning opportunity will be held on August 19th from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. On TEAMS.
The “Learn with Me” series is a quarterly virtual learning opportunity designed to engage our membership and beyond on relevant and timely topics. Each one-hour session will highlight lessons learned, best practices, and practical “how-to” guidance to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities across the region.
Donald Denson will be the first speaker, he is the Organizational Resilience Senior Program Manager Texas Children's Hospital in Austin, Texas. This presentation discusses the impact of challenges, specifically the deadly school bus crash MCI event, faced by the newly opened Texas Children's Hospital in Austin, Texas, 30 days after its opening. This presentation covers the impacts on family reunification, mass-casualty response, triage, and overall event failures. Lastly, this presentation discusses the second school bus crash, which occurred exactly eight months after the initial, deadly bus crash.

MGT 317: Disaster Management for Public Services and Public Works
This class is scheduled on August 20th & 21st, from 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. The location is City of Virginia Beach PU Dept, 3500 Dam Neck Road Virginia Beach Virginia 23453.
Public services and public works play a vital role in disaster management. Public services safeguard communities and minimize the impacts of incidents. The mission of public works agencies across the country is to construct, maintain, and protect our Nation’s public infrastructure and facilities. Consequently, disaster management efforts need to be integrated between critical infrastructure, emergency management, and support personnel. Clear communication and coordination between utilities, transportation, fire, public safety, city planning/urban development, public health, and local, state, and federal emergency management officials ensure an effective and resilient response and recovery.
The Disaster Management for Public Services and Public Works course brings together representatives from public service and public works agencies who are expected to identify and mitigate hazards and plan and manage disaster response and recovery efforts within their jurisdictions. Participants work together in multidisciplinary teams to apply the course information with their professional experience in a variety of hands-on, small group activities, and disaster scenarios.
- MGT 439: PEDIATRIC DISASTER RESPONSE & EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESSThis class is scheduled on September 3rd & 4th at Landstowne Health Center , 2nd floor training room; 1924 Landstowne Center Way, Virginia Beach , Virginia 23456. It will be from 8:00 a.m.-5 p.m.This is one of four courses that earn the Community Disaster Preparedness for Healthcare Certificate.A 2010 report by the National Commission on Children and Disasters identified a training gap for emergency responders, first receivers, and emergency management personnel that reduced their effectiveness in responding to pediatric patients and their unique needs/considerations. - MGT 343 Disaster Management for Water and Wastewater UtilitiesThis training is scheduled for October 7th and 8th from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. It will be hosted at City of Virginia Beach PU Dept, 3500 Dam Neck Road Virginia Beach, VA 23453.The Disaster Management for Water and Wastewater Utilities course is designed to provide training to water and wastewater professionals on issues concerning preparing for, responding to, and recovering from natural or human-caused disasters that threaten water and wastewater facilities and systems.The link to register: https://my.teex.org/TeexPortal/?MO=mClassRegistration&D=EU&C=MGT343&S=794
