Good morning,

This is the weekly Monday briefing, which will cover the weather through the end of this week, including the prolonged heat wave which peaks today through Wednesday.

Key Points:

  • Extreme Heat Warnings are in effect for most of central and eastern Virginia as well as northeast North Carolina through Wednesday. Heat Advisories are in effect for portions of the western VA Piedmont as well as the VA & lower MD Eastern Shore for today.
  • Extreme Heat Watches are in effect from Tuesday through Wednesday for the remainder of the area not currently under an Extreme Heat Warning, with the exception of the MD beaches which remain under a Heat Advisory through Wednesday.
  • Heat index values of 105-109° will be common during peak heating through Wednesday, with those areas covered by Extreme Heat Warnings likely reaching 110° or higher.
  • The heat wave will abate later in the week. However, heat indices greater than 105° will still be possible on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
  • Little to no rain chances through Tuesday as high pressure remains overhead. There is a low chance for isolated afternoon showers/storms from Wednesday through Friday.
  • Marine Weather - Benign marine conditions persist through the coming week.
