Eastern Pediatric Trauma Conference

This class is scheduled on May 30th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Old Dominion University's Eastern Virginia Medical School Campus. Waitzer Hall, 735 Fairfax Ave, Norfolk 23507.

The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) Pediatric Trauma Conference is a one-day accredited pediatric course that is designed to provide knowledge and skills related to pediatric trauma from content experts.

In addition, we seek to enhance our community and pediatric colleagues’ ability to manage pediatric trauma cases. We will provide a forum for informal learning and discussion as well as formal presentation in the areas of pediatric trauma. The conference will provide various learning methodologies presented by experts in the areas of pediatric trauma.

Target Audience: The CHKD Eastern Pediatric Trauma Conference has been designed to educate pediatricians, primary care physicians, subspecialty physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, paramedics and emergency medical technicians, residents and fellows, and other healthcare professionals.

Earn up to 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM • 6 Contact Hours for Nurses ACGME Competencies/Desirable Physician Attributes; medical education, patient care, systems-based practice

 


PER 211: Medical Management of Chem, Bio, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive Events

This class is scheduled on July 29th & 30th, 2025, it will be from 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. in the Peninsula EMS council at 6876 Main Street Gloucester Virginia 23061. 

What if a catastrophic event occurs? Will you be ready? Will you need a special level of protection? Is decontamination necessary? Do you have the right medications? This course answers these questions and more as you learn how to distinguish between different agents of concern that could be used in an incident. A combination of facilitated discussions, small-group exercises, human patient simulator hands-on scenarios, and traditional classroom discussions are used to present the topics. The multi-discipline make-up of the participants helps to strengthen information sharing, communications, and medical surge capabilities.



MGT 439: Pediatric Disaster Response & Emergency Preparedness
 
This class is scheduled on September 3rd & 4th from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at Landstowne Health Center , 2nd floor training room; 1924 Landstowne Center Way, Virginia Beach , Virginia 23456. 

This is one of four courses that earn the Community Disaster Preparedness for Healthcare Certificate.

A 2010 report by the National Commission on Children and Disasters identified a training gap for emergency responders, first receivers, and emergency management personnel that reduced their effectiveness in responding to pediatric patients and their unique needs/considerations. This course addresses pediatric emergency planning and medical response considerations through a combination of lectures, small group exercises, and a table-top exercise.




HERT Training

This training is scheduled for October 28-30 from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. It will be hosted at a Riverside Regional: 500 J Clyde Morris Blvd, Newport News, VA 23601. This will be held in Annex Conference Room D. Please park in the parking garages.

The Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents (HERT) course addresses health care response at the operations level for the facility and its personnel. This three-day course prepares health care responders to utilize the Hospital Incident Command System — integrating into the community emergency response network while operating an Emergency Treatment Area as hospital first responders during a mass casualty incident involving patient contamination.

It is recommended to have successfully completed operations-level CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive) or hazardous-materials training as specified in 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(ii), at a minimum.

 

Virtual Burn Training
This will be held for all RN's and EVHC Team Members on June, July, & August. TEMS will be hosting this class for all EMS on September, October, November. **The flyer will be sent out at a later date. 

RN & EVHC Team Members Dates & Times *

- June 24: 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.

- July 24: 7:30 a.m. -9:30 a.m.

-August 21: 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.

 *If you are EMS, you can still register for these classes, there is no cap for these classes.

 

TEMS EMS Dates & Times*

- September 16: 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.

- October 16: 7:30 a.m. -9:30 a.m.

- November 13: 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.

*This is specifically for EMS because they will have a cap of 30 per class.

 
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Trauma/Burn Services and Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Old Dominion University Eastern Virginia Medical School and Medical Group-Emergency Trauma and Burn Surgeons are collaborating with the Eastern Virginia Healthcare Coalition to offer virtual Burn Training to the region. This training will cover initial burn care, dressings, topical, fluid resuscitation, primary survey and transfer. This is in complement and review of Burn boxes available at each hospital in the Eastern Region.



Virtual PAPR Training

This will be held September 10th at 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and September 17th from 1:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m. by ILC Dover.


This virtual session will consist of how to put on a PAPR, what the parts of the PAPR are, how to use a PAPR and the types of PAPRs there are.


Virtual HVA Workshop
This will be held October 8th at 10:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. on TEAMS. Once you register, we will send out the link.

The MVP Coordinator and the Training and Exercise Coordinator will be providing you with a basic understanding of what the HVA is and how it applies to each of your facilities. We are here for you to ask questions and review an example HVA with you.



Virtual VHASS Training

These will be held virtually every Wednesday in October (8, 15, 22, 29) at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

This will be for anyone and everyone, it is created for MRSE in November.
