Good morning,

Attached is an updated briefing from National Weather Service Wakefield, VA as of 8:00 AM EST Tuesday, February 11, 2025, highlighting the potential impacts from a winter storm expected today into Wednesday morning.

What has changed?

  • No significant changes to the forecast.
  • Snow has already spread into the Piedmont regions as of 7am this morning.

Key Points:

  • 6-8” of heavy, wet snow is expected from Louisa/Caroline Counties to the Maryland Eastern Shore. 2-5” of snow (with some sleet/freezing rain) is expected across central portions of the area, with a trace to 2” of snow/sleet in southern VA.
  • Significant ice accumulation is possible for areas west of interstate 95, especially in the Piedmont where up to 0.20-0.30” of ice accretion is forecast.
  • Prepare now for potential power outages. The weight of the snow/ice could down trees/power lines and cause power outages, especially in areas that see 6”+ of snow or 0.20”+ of ice.
  • Precipitation moves in as mostly snow Tuesday morning and changes to rain/sleet/freezing rain later Tue/Tue night (but could remain as snow across far northern portions of the area).
  • Most of the week remains very unsettled with additional chances for precipitation continuing through Thursday, with additional rain expected this weekend.
