Good afternoon,

Attached is an updated briefing from National Weather Service Wakefield, VA as of  4PM on 1/6/2025, highlighting the potential impacts from the ongoing winter storm.

Key Points:

  • Winter Storm Warnings or Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for much of central and eastern Virginia, Northampton (NC) and the Lower Maryland Eastern Shore.
  • Another brief round of snow is expected late this afternoon and evening, as the storm system moves offshore and cold air returns. This will result in up to 2” of additional snow mainly before midnight. The heaviest snow will likely be north and east of Richmond and across the Maryland Eastern Shore. The snow should end by midnight.
  • Bitterly cold temperatures are expected following the winter event. Wind chills will drop into the single digits in places tonight with Cold Weather Advisories in effect for portions of Central VA. Daytime highs are only expected to be in the 30s for much of the week, with nighttime lows in the teens to potentially single digits in spots. Additional cold weather advisories are expected this week.
  • Another winter storm system potentially impacts the region this weekend.
  • Marine Weather - Gale conditions are expected for all waters tonight into Tuesday.
