Good afternoon,

Attached is an updated briefing from National Weather Service Wakefield, VA as of 4:30 PM 1/5/2025, highlighting the potential impacts from a winter storm expected through Tuesday.

Next briefing by 8 AM Monday

Key Points:

  • Winter Storm Warnings or Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for much of central and eastern Virginia, Northampton (NC) and the Lower Maryland Eastern Shore.
  • Snow totals from Richmond northward have been increased, especially along and north of a line from Fluvanna, Ashland to Tappahannock and the MD Lower Eastern Shore.
  • A band of moderate to heavy sleet is expected along and just south of I-64 and west of I-95, which will make for a sharp gradient in snowfall totals.
  • Significant snow, sleet, and freezing rain this evening through Monday will greatly impact travel across the region resulting in dangerous conditions especially across the piedmont, central VA and the Eastern Shore Monday morning
  • A second round of snow is expected late Monday afternoon and evening, as the storm system moves offshore and cold air returns. This will result in some additional snow accumulation Monday evening and night.
  • Bitterly cold temperatures are expected following the winter event. Daytime highs potentially remaining near freezing for a portion of next week.
  • Marine Weather - Gale conditions are expected for all waters Monday night into Tuesday, as the storm system moves offshore and strengthens.
