Good morning/afternoon/evening,

Attached is an updated briefing from National Weather Service Wakefield, VA as of  5 PM, Friday January 3, 2025, highlighting the potential impacts from a winter storm expected Sunday evening into Monday.

NEXT UPDATE 8 AM Saturday

Key Points:

  • Not much change to the forecast with a brief period of wintry precipitation with rain mixed with snow late this afternoon and evening. No significant snow accumulation is expected, and precipitation should be rather limited. Any impacts to freezing on road surfaces should be limited to the MD Eastern Shore where precipitation will end and temperatures drop to near freezing.
  • There remains a risk of an impactful winter event from snow and freezing rain Sunday evening through Monday. While exact amounts are uncertain, snow along with some freezing rain will be significant enough to impact travel across a broad area of central and northern VA.  Main impacts will be Sunday evening and into Monday.
  • Winter Storm Watches, Warnings and Advisories will likely be issued with later updates.
  • Bitterly cold temperatures are expected next week following the winter event with daytime highs potentially remaining below freezing for a good portion of next week.
  • Marine Weather - Gale Warnings are in effect for tonight through Saturday. Winds will decrease Sunday and Monday. Winds increase again later on Monday and Tuesday with gales possible.
