Learn your trade, before you learn the tricks of the trade.
Good afternoon,
Construction at Maryview Medical Center is about to begin that will impact access to the EMS/Medical Transport bays. As part of the kitchen remodel project, the paved area in the rear of the ED has to be dug up for pipe/sewer line replacement. It is estimated that it will take 6-8 weeks from start to completion. Emergency 911 and medical transport traffic will be impacted in two phases:
Phase 1: Temporary Dock Construction
Beginning on Monday, October 14th a temporary patient offloading dock will be constructed. This will mean that ambulance bays 1-3 will not be available to park in. Currently bays 1 and 2 are blocked off. Starting on Monday, only 911 EMS traffic will be allowed access to the remaining bays 4-7. All commercial medical transport companies must access the facility via the MMC Heart Center Aston-Pavilion entrance on West Road. The only exception will be emergent ED to ED transfers. Directional signs to both the ED and elevators will be located throughout the hallways. Directional signs to the Aston-Pavilion entrance will be located at the entrance off High St and along Willet Dr/West Road.
Phase 2: The Big Dig
Beginning on Monday, November 4th the only access to the ED via the EMS bay will be at the newly constructed temporary dock. This will accommodate TWO ambulances. All hemodynamically unstable patients should be offloaded at this location. Due to this limited access we ask that ambulances are relocated to the current front doctors parking lot (across from the main ED entrance) as soon as possible. This lot does have gated access that will be shut off during construction. No personal staff vehicles will be allowed to park there. This will be only for ambulance parking. All other 911 EMS and ALL commercial medical transport traffic MUST USE the Aston-Pavilion entrance on West Rd. Wheelchairs will be available inside the door if needed for ease of low acuity patient transport. Ambulances can be parked throughout the loop at this entrance. Current on-call doctor spaces will also be blocked for ambulance parking. The construction will also block off the road between the engineering building and heart center. All fire apparatus arriving with an ambulance will need to park in loop near the Aston-Pavilion entrance, and enter the building through this entrance to retrieve crew members. Please note that tractor trailer and delivery vehicles will be parking along West Rd as all shipping and receiving will be occurring via the employee entrance on West Rd. Security will be monitoring all entrances and parking. Again, this portion of the project should be completed in 6-8 weeks. Once phase 2 is complete the ambulance bays will be reopened to all 911 EMS and transport traffic.
Please relay this information to all of your crews to help lessen the confusion and patient offloading impact.
I appreciate your understanding and patience during this construction. Do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions and/or concerns.
Thank you,
Pat
