Good morning,

Attached is the latest briefing as of Sunday, July 6th, 2025 covering Tropical Storm Chantal and the forecast for this week.

Key Points:

  • Scattered showers and storms are expected across much of the area today, with showers and a few storms continuing tonight (mainly south). Additional showers and storms are likely Monday (especially east of I-95) as the remnants of Chantal cross the area. Locally heavy rainfall is possible starting this afternoon, with the greater threat for isolated flash flooding likely being on Monday (especially from midday through the evening).
  • Tropical Storm Chantal made landfall in South Carolina and will slowly track north then northeast. Local impacts will be limited to heavy rainfall (see above bullet point).
  • Rip Currents: High threat of rip currents in VA Beach/NE NC today, with a moderate threat in the MD beaches. Moderate threat of rip currents Monday across all beaches.
  • Marine Weather - A brief period of SCA conditions is expected this afternoon-tonight as SE winds increase to 15-20 kt with gusts to 25 kt. Another brief period of SCAs possible on Monday (due to elevated S winds). Sub-SCA conditions return by Monday night.
