Good morning,

This briefing covers the severe weather threat for the upcoming weekend. A Day 2 and 3 Slight Risk for Severe Weather is now in place over portions of the area.  The key points are as follows:

  • Showers are expected this afternoon into tonight as low pressure passes by to our south. The highest rain totals will be over southern VA and NE NC, with ~0.5” possible. A few thunderstorms will also be possible over the VA piedmont, mainly west of I-95.
  • A more unsettled pattern prevails over the weekend, with scattered to numerous thunderstorms possible both Saturday and Sunday (highest coverage during the afternoon/evening). A few storms could be strong to severe this weekend, with damaging wind gusts being the main threat.
  • Marine Weather - Sub-advisory conditions look to prevail today and through the weekend. S-SE winds 10-15 kt, expected, building seas to 3-4 ft today and tonight, before seas subside a bit later Saturday and Saturday night.
The briefing will be updated online by 3 pm today. Join us for a special Friday version of the 11 am live weather briefing at: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/1838810498471693150
