Good morning,

Attached is an updated briefing from National Weather Service Wakefield, VA as of  8:30 AM, Friday, May 30th, highlighting the potential for severe weather, heavy rainfall, and marine threats later this afternoon into tomorrow.

Key Points:

  • Strong to severe storms will be possible later this afternoon into this evening. A Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe weather is in place across much of our area today, with most likely timing for severe storms being from 4-11pm. All hazards will be a threat (tornadoes, hail, damaging winds, heavy rain).
  • Isolated strong to severe storms are possible Saturday afternoon and early evening. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats.
  • Marine Weather - A brief period of gale force wind gusts is likely late Friday night /early Saturday, thus a Gale Warning has been issued for the Ches. Bay and coastal waters. SCAs are in effect for the rivers and Currituck Sound for winds expected late this evening/tonight into Saturday. SCAs may be needed for lingering elevated seas for the coastal waters into Saturday.
