Good morning,

Attached is an updated briefing from National Weather Service Wakefield, VA as of 9:00 AM EDT Sunday March 16, 2025, highlighting the potential for severe storms and flooding later today into tonight. A two page briefing has also been included. Note that this will be the final briefing for this event unless there are significant changes to the forecast.

What Has Changed?

  • Only minor changes in expected timing for severe weather/potential flooding.
  • The Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) remains in place across much of the area.

Key Points: 

  • Damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, a few brief tornadoes, and perhaps some hail are possible along with locally heavy rain.
  • Breezy conditions are expected to develop ahead of the line of showers/storms today, especially towards the coastline and Eastern Shore. Wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph are expected.
  • Marine Weather - Small Craft Advisories are in effect for strong marine winds through Monday morning. Occasional gusts up to 35 kt are possible this afternoon and evening, with locally higher gusts possible within storms this afternoon and evening. Waves up to 10 ft in the northern coastal waters and up to 5 ft in the Bay.
