Hello everyone,

We had to make an adjustment to the headline of slide 5 to account for the threat timing today. Our apologies for any confusion. The updated briefing is attached below.

Stay safe.

Good morning,

Attached is an updated briefing from National Weather Service Wakefield, VA as of  03/05/2025 7:15 am, highlighting the potential for severe storms later today. This is the final briefing for this event.

What Has Changed:

  • Wind Advisories remain in effect, but have been added for Dorchester (MD)
  • Enhanced Risk has been expanded farther north.

Key Points:

  • A Level 3 (Enhanced Risk) of severe storms is forecasted for this afternoon across much of the area. A Level 2 (Slight Risk) is forecasted for the far northern portion of the area.
  • Timing is from 10 AM to 6 PM today, as a line of showers and severe storms moves from west to east across the area. There could be two lines of storms developing with the initial line posing the more significant threat.
  • Threats include damaging winds, a few tornadoes, and isolated hail. Wind gusts of 60 to 75 mph or greater are possible. A few strong tornadoes may also be possible in SE VA/NE NC.
  • Marine Weather - Gale Warnings are in effect through early Thursday morning for the Chesapeake Bay, all coastal waters, and the lower James River, as southerly winds increase with the cold front.  Wind gusts in excess of 50 knots are possible with the squall line this afternoon. A second front crosses the waters Thursday afternoon, with another period of strong Small Craft Advisory-level winds and possible gale force gusts expected Thursday evening into early Friday morning.
