Good morning,
Attached is an updated briefing from National Weather Service Wakefield, VA as of 1/10/2025 9:30 AM, highlighting the potential impacts from a winter storm expected Friday into Saturday.
Key Points:
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for areas with the greatest confidence of significant snow accumulations (including much of the Richmond and Hampton Roads metro areas). A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect to the north and south of the warning where slightly less snow accumulation is expected.
AMOUNTS: A widespread 2 to 4 inches of snow is likely. Additionally, a band of more significant accumulations of up to 6 inches is possible across central/south central VA.
TIMING: Onset of snow will be around 7 to 10 pm this evening, increasing in intensity later tonight and through the early morning hours Saturday. Snow mixes with or changes over to sleet, freezing rain, or freezing drizzle across portions of NE NC and near the NC/VA border south of Chesapeake.
Snow rates will peak between 1 to 2 inches per hour from late tonight into early Saturday morning. Quick accumulations of snow are expected during this time.
Following the snowfall, temperatures plummet once again into the teens and low 20s Saturday night with highs Sunday in the mid to upper 30s. Lows in the teens again Sunday night. Melting and refreezing is expected into early next week.
Marine Weather - Small Craft Advisory conditions are then expected Saturday afternoon through Saturday night. Occasional wind gusts of 35 knots or higher will be possible Saturday night.
